Storm over La Torre

From the website that last year brought you the "Great Fire of La Torre" this year's near death experience came courtesy of an 8 or 9 hour thunder & lightning show.

Of course the real fun came after darkness had fallen but the air had been banging and crashing for a few hours before that.

I had been in Murcia City and started to drive back to La Torre at around 10pm. All the way home there where constant flashes of the storm but it wasn't until I was within a few kilometres of home that the rain grew very heavy and the flashing lightning became almost constant, often with multiple flashes across the sky.

I started taking pics at 1.30 when it was really going at it full blast. If you have ever tried to capture the moment you will understand that around a dozen good photos from around 200 taken wasn't a bad return.

If you have been paying attention you will wonder where the near death experience came into it. That was the threatened heart attack from the 200 photos that produced nothing of note.

;¬) keep smiling.

We are now Residents

I am delighted to tell you that Mrs Bangor and I finally completed our purchase at La Torre on Wednesday 8th July. A happy day for us after much chopping and changing of dates due to some party finding something more important to do with their time.

Seriously for those of you who have not yet completed a Spanish purchase be aware that it is very difficult than the UK. Completion happens at the Notary's office and also present are the abogados/lawyers from each party and a bank representative of each side assuming there are mortgages on both sides.

Getting all those people in the same room together is not easy, in fact I am told that my abogado was so late that the vendors solicitor wanted to call it off and retain my 15000 deposit! Happily there was a happy ending - but be warned.

We were there for a week and spent too much time shopping and too little time relaxing. I'm sure anyone who has completed will understand this. However don't feel too sorry for me! Look at this..........................................

La Torre Townhouse

Mrs Bangor - Susan - & I are finally about to get our "place in the sun." There are a few more formalities to complete which I hope will be done in the coming week and we are looking forward to spending time in it when we go over on 4th July.

It is tremendously significant that it will be on "Independence Day" when we spend our first night in it. We are looking at this as a possible retirement location assuming we are still as enthusiastic about La Torre when we get the opportunity to spend more time here over the next few years.

We had expected to be just down the road at the slowly developing Terrazas de le Torre however the economic downturn provided both an irritation and an opportunity.

The irritation was that it has become increasingly obvious that our phase on Terrazas is still a long way off from completion, both in terms of the apartment and importantly the facilities. Whilst be have enjoyed our time in various townhouses, apartments and villas on our stays on holiday, there is a different feeling in going to your own home.

The opportunity came when I realised just how affordable the resale property had become and even if I never see a cent of the money deposited on the Terrazas apartment I still believe that we will come out of this purchase around €50000 better off.

This is what attracted us to this townhouse:
